The newsletter, which is sent out once every month, is different
from this mailing list. I think the original purpose of this mailing was
more than what was stated above. Actually, I don't think the main
purpose was what stated above at all. I don't think anyone in Hefei is
on this mailing list. There has never been any formal discussion on the
purpose of the group. But to my understanding, Ustc@rainbow was set up for
the communication among USTC alumni in the Chicago area, but certainly,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
is not exclusive to it. There is another mailing list set up by Dr Zhang
Shangyou to serve the the bridge between USTC and its alumni. But I
haven't seen too many post to it.
I can't agree here. As mentioned above, this list is for the USTC alumni in
Chicago. Useful info such as job listing is very appropriate. We also
use the list to pass around any social gatherings. And not every
message has to be useful to everyone. I can't imagine anything of that
nature. Maybe this time you find one post interesting, or maybe next
time I find the other post useful. Or if you have/need suggestions/help
from/to fellow alumni, you can post here, too. The mailing list give us
a way to 'talk' to each other and make our life in Chicago more enjoyable.
This is only my own opinion, too. And hopefully you will stay on the
list and benefit from it.
