could also find the Bylaw (under draft) and Donation form for this
foundation.

On May 4th, Changneng Xuan (839), who now is studying at the
University of Texas at Austin, wrote to the current President of
USTC, Professor Tang, Honggao, with five suggestions as to how to
further strengthen the programs of USTC:
1. Establish USTC Foundation for Educational Development.
2. Strengthen the construction and development of engineering
departments of the university,
3. Establish a school of Business.
4. Stengthening the work on public relations.
5. Urge the State Education Commission(SEC) to fairly support
universities which are not part of the SEC system.
The president of USTC replied on May 29th with a warm and very
responsive letter (in Chinese). In the letter, USTC president reported
a number of encouraging news from USTC, including opening of the USTC
Business School in early June. Please visit the USTCAF WWW site for the

The Austin/TX USTC Alumni Get-together Party
On Saturday, June 24th, over 30 people (USTC alumni and families)
attended a get-together party at Windy Point on Lake Travis. The scenery
was beautiful, much like a bay area. The suny weather added to the
attraction of the shore. Many of us had much fun swimming and playing
hand-balls in the water. We also enjoyed Bar-B-Q and other
food/beverages. In the party, we had the chance to meet old
alumni/friends and get to know new ones. This party brought our old
memories about USTC into our conversations and We had a great time.
The party also served as an see-off/farewell to Kehong Wen (824), who is
to leave UT Austin for Berkeley to pursue a Ph.D. in Finance in the
well-known Haas School of Business, after finishing his Ph.D. in Physics
and about 2 years of post-doc at UT.
The compiling of directory for USTC alumni/friends is now complete. It
contains about 20 alumni and we expect it to grow longer, as more alumni
return to Austin after their summer vacations or internships. For more
information about the local USTC alumni activities and the directory,
please contact Xuan, Changneng (839) at:
