Amnesty International: Group 175

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.

- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Welcome to Amnesty International Group 175
in Long Beach, California

Group 175 has a Burmese prisoner of conscience and spends meetings trying to call the military government of Myanmar (State Law and Order Restoration Council - SLORC) to find about the student's imprisonment in addition to letter writing on behalf of other prisoners and issues. They are also trying to convince a local manufacturer of torture devices not to export its instruments to known human rights violating countries (change happens one step at a time!). You may have seen the group recently tabling at the Farmer's Market or local library.

New members are always welcome!
The group meets the last Thursday of the month at 7:30 at 727 Raymond Ave. in Long Beach (cross street: 7th St., near Junipero).

Founded in 1961, AI works impartially for the release of all prisoners of conscience, fair and prompt trials for political prisoners, and an end to torture and executions (for further information, see the brief history and description and the text of the Statute of AI).
