The 1994-1995 year marked a major transition for the men's volleyball club. In previous years, the main focus was on U.S. Volleyball Association (USVBA) competition where the club played at the A and then AA levels. This year, with the coaching debut of Aaron Kiely, who had joined previously as a player, the club concentrated on intercollegiate matches. Nearly doubling the number of matches scheduled against collegiate teams from the previous year, the club played against powerhouses such as Pomona-Pitzer, Cal Poly Pomona, and Claremont-McKenna's varsity and club teams.
The team also had many new faces this season. With several old starters having left, the club was faced with the challenge of recruiting new members to fill the vacancies. The fall tryouts proved to be a rousing success, as 5 of the new members became regulars on the starting lineups. The team was also able to generate a deep enough field in each position that the loss of a starter did not seriously reduce the team's competitiveness. Most of all, every member contributed to the quiet strength and determination that brought about a 12-7 record, which included winning the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Tournament.
Though completely successful in the team's main purpose of bringing high-level competitive men's volleyball to the Caltech/JPL community, the team is still young. With a minimal turnover expected between this year and the next, the team hopes to build on its success and develop into one of the most competitive club teams in the area.
