Caltech Volleyball Dominates All

by Scott "Ridin' the Short Bus" Van Essen

In a game scheduled Saturday March 28th against Azusa Pacific University, he was everywhere. No set went unspiked, no hit went unblocked, no ball could touch the floor on his side of the net. He is the Caltech Men's Club Volleyball team's one man wrecking crew. His name is Scott Van Essen. With his spectacular 38 inch vertical jump, he towered over opponents. His lean and lank 6'5" 190 pound frame a coiled spring...waiting like a mousetrap to unleash devastation upon his foes. Where Scott rose, opponents ducked and covered, protecting vital organs or fleeing the gym entirely. The entire Azusa Pacific team might as well have not even been there, so devastating was his unstoppable attack.

Fans screamed their adulation. "We love you Scott" echoed from the rafters. Pro Beach Volleyball Sensation Karch Kiraly had this to say: "...I was utterly blown away. I came here to ask Scott to be my partner for the AVP tour this summer, but I might as well go home now, this guy is way out of my league." Following two decisive 3-0 victories against Concordia University and Whittier College, Caltech was again disappointed at home on Saturday when its opponent failed to materialize. San Antonio College and now Azusa Pacific University have been unwilling to challenge the Beavers in their own Dam. The final home game of the season is on Saturday the 18th against Occidental College at 3pm in Brown Gymnasium. We now return you to your regularly scheduled alternate reality.

.........with Kate Winslet" Scott assured us in a personal interview after the game. Well, he won't be needing any life preservers tonight.
