Dear Colleague:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UNC - Chapel Hill is beginning
a search for a tenure-track assistant professor in experimental nuclear
physics. This will be an open search, but preference will be given to those with
interests in nuclear astrophysics. Unfortunately, our announcement of this
position will not be published until somewhat later this fall, but I have added
a copy after this letter. Please note that although this position is affiliated
with TUNL, it is a different position than that just announced by Duke.

We would be grateful if you could pass this information on to anyone who may be
interested. We would also appreciate any suggestions concerning individuals who
you feel may be good candidates for this position. Thank you for your help.

Sincerely yours,

Art Champagne (AEC@TUNL.Duke.edu)

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Tenure-Track Assistant Professorship
Experimental Nuclear Physics

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship
in experimental nuclear physics to commence in July 1996. Preference will be
given to those who can complement our ongoing program in experimental nuclear
astrophysics. Other areas of interest are few-body physics, tests of
fundamental symmetries in nuclei, and the production and use of high-intensity
polarized ion beams. Our research activities are centered at the Triangle
Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) as well as at several external
facilities such as Oak Ridge, Yale and FSU. An extensive array of
experimental equipment is located at TUNL and significant computational and
theoretical expertise resides within the Triangle. Candidates should submit a
curriculum vitae, publication list and a statement of research interests. These
materials and four letters of recommendation should be sent to Chairman,
Nuclear Physics Search Committee, Department of Physics and Astronomy,
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3255, USA. Applications
will be screened beginning December 1, 1995 UNC is an affirmative action and
equal opportunity institution.
