First, I agree with Wu Hao at the following points: (1) LDH, as an alumnus
of Cornell, surely has the basic human right to visit his Alma Mater; (2) If
we really want to do something for the unification of China, we should open
talk with Taiwanese here.

BUT, I don't look at this issue from the LDH perspective, but from the U.S.
authority perspective. The questions I want to ask are, why are the U.S.
capitol and the government so enthusiastic to arrange this visit? Is this
enthusiasm really originated from their respects to Mr. LDH? Or something
else that they can not tell?

I believe, the answer to the second question is very clear. How about the
first one? Everybody with normal IQ knows that U.S. never makes a deal at
an intentional loss. Compare its responses to Gulf Crisis and the crisis in
current Bosnia, we can see very clear, if there had not been the interest in
oil, U.S. would never have involved in the Gulf War. In 70's, when U.S.
deadly needed China to help block the expansion of Soviet influence in Asia,
they abandoned Taiwan; but now, when U.S. is gradually losing influence in
Asia, when a stronger China is growing to be even stronger, they feel they
need to do something to block China's growing influence in that region, and
the so-called "potential threatening from China". I would like to point out
that, the issue is not whether Mr. LDH deserves this opportunity, but an
issue about what the U.S. government's intention is by doing so, and what
its consequences are. From this perspective, I absolutely belive that we
should speak out to let those people know that we are not stupid, and we can
not be fooled, just like we responded to the CBS report last year.

BTW, I also want to point out that, despite the fact that Mr. LDH is the
president of "Republic of China" and the president of Chinese National
Party, he is a famous separatist. This is an undoubtible fact! (Si1 Ma3
Zhao1 Zhi1 Xin1, Lu4 Ren2 Jie2 Zhi1)!!!

Mr. Wu Hao has mentioned the political significance of LDH's visit. I think
that's exactly why so many Chinese people(including people from both sides)
are so concerned about this affair. Mr. Wu Hao has also mentioned that, we
should ask for Taiwanese opinions on this issue. Absolutely right! But,
please note, if we didn't express our opinions, how could this be called a
talk? Or maybe some people would like to call it a debate or argument.

I like the "parents-kid" comparison. I think Wu Hao is right, the mainland
should not dictate what Taiwan should do, what they should not. But let
discuss a little bit further. Just like a family, when close the door, we
can talk anything (actually, mainland and Taiwan are talking right now); but
how about some outsiders come and say to one family member, "hi, your family
is really disgusting. Why don't you leave it?!" Or say, "If you want to
leave your family, we surely can help, and we'll take care of you!" Well,
who feels comfortable with this sort of behaviors as a family member?

Sorry for saying too much. I would be very happy to hear different opinions.
