1. Picnic at Fermi Lab on May 20, 1995 ..............................
---------------------------------------------------------------------
>From: USTC Alumni Association in Chicago Area

We are pleased to announce our new Spring picnic at Fermi Lab on
May 20, 1995. Fermi Lab is located on a 6,800-acre site about 35 miles
west of Chicago. You may have known Fermi Lab for its discovery of the
top quark or its most powerful particle accelerator in the world, but
you may not know it's also a land of scenery. We paid a visit to the
lab last weekend and was impressed by its beauty and serenity. It has
a nice picnic area, huge playground, plenty of sporting facilities
(including outdoor sandy volleyball courts, basketball courts, and
tennis courts), and several small ponds. You can also hike through the
tallgrass prairie, enjoy birdwatching or buffalo-gazing.

We will send out detailed announcement for this event later. Please
contact your local coordinator as soon as possible to make
reservations.

5. Nothwestern Students On Hunger Strike ............................
---------------------------------------------------------------------
>From: Yahua Yu <yyu@u.washington.edu>

A hunger strike was organized by Asian American Advisory Board at
Northwest University to protest that the University has refused four
times to consider of a proposal to set up a research center of Asian
culture.

On April 7, the Asian American Advisory Board called a hunger-strike
protest to let more people know the situation. The protest has been
supported by several hundred students, and by Black Student Committee,
Southern Asian Student Committee, etc. The event has been reported by
several major newspapers in the Chicago area. By 4/21/95 Friday, several
participating students have been very weak, and sent to hospital for
treatment. But the university authorities has made no response to this
protest, and no contact has been made to the students.

The Asian American Advisory Board has asked all Chinese students from other
campuses to support, and donate, if any, to the students of this protest.
Now the situation is very serious because the students' health is in danger.
Their hunger protest enters the seventh day now.
