Last weekend I attended a seminar at stanford, and a chinese professor
who's in charge of graduate admission at the physics dept. told the
audience that they received 25 applications from the physics dept. of
USTC, all the applicants claim in their personal statements that they
are among the top 2% of their class. Puzzled, the head of Stanford's
physics dept. asked, " How did the math work out? "
25 / 2% = 1250. So maybe not all aplicants are from the same class or
the same grade. :-)
