TWO DEGREES by Tira Palmquist

A cool new play about frozen people on a thawing planet.

Emma Phelps is a paleoclimatologist, focusing on ice in Greenland. She sees first hand what we have wrought in terms of climate change, and now all she can think to do is continue to study, to amass data, to publish. She’s also a recent widow and, until now …. all she can do is study, to amass data, to publish. Now she’s asked to come to Washington, DC to testify in a Senate Committee regarding climate change legislation, and she finds more than just a little is breaking up under the strain of change.

Director Joshua Wolf Coleman is known for his acting roles in the films Multiple, Mr. President, and Hidalgo and such TV shows as How To Get Away with Murder, Castle, Scandal, Parenthood, and Grey’s Anatomy. Josh performed the role of Clay in a reading of "Two Degrees" at The Road Theater.

THE LAST FLIGHT OF THE MERCENARY by Karen Howes

A romantic comedy of science and love

At a bed and breakfast perched above the Saanich Inlet in British Columbia, a young woman’s plan to marry the perfect man is thrown off course when a physics professor constructs a time machine so that she may alter the circumstances of her future and discover what went wrong in her life. This is a play of science and love, Shakespeare, nights without stars, and the latest in quantum information theory.

Director Kathryn Bikle is well-known at Caltech for directing plays such as Gobble Up Stories, The Tempest, and Midsummer Night's Dream.

CHARACTERS

Kate Eveland -- A widowed physics professor with nothing in her life except science and a pending 40th birthday, so she’s a mess and consequently immersed in a scientific experiment to travel back in time so she can fix what went wrong in her past.

Martin Wells -- Kate’s brother n law who is haunted by the same tragedy that plagues Kate and whose search for himself has manifested itself in multiple careers and little fulfillment. He’s 52.

(We will not be auditioning for the character of MARTIN)

Claire Phillips - A young and vivacious bride-to-be from NYC with Asperger’s. The syndrome causes slight obsessions, uncanny aptitudes for particular subjects, and the inability to determine the correct response to certain stimuli; 25 yrs old.

Blake Fields -- A very handsome and rugged pilot; 25-35 years old.

Jules Mitchell -- A magistrate; 60+ in years.
