Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
The Caltech Center for Diversity and SWE present:
Ice Cream Social and General Meeting: Tuesday Sept. 29th 8-9 pm 2nd floor of Center for Student Services
We will first host an event for all freshmen women at 8pm to discuss women at Caltech and in the engineering fields and a brief introduction to Caltech SWE. Then at 8:30, we will introduce all the new activities we will be doing this year!

September 27, 2008: SWE set up a booth at the Caltech Club Fair
First term: Frosh Mentoring Program commenced. We had ~41 mentor/mentee pairs!
October 23: Women in Information Sciences Tea (Organized jointly with the Club for Computer Science)
Telle Whitney, the President of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology presented the keynote. Alumnae in Information Sciences discussed the role of women in Information Sciences, women in the industry, academia, and government, women in medicine, law, business etc, family - career balance, and Caltech's preparation for women in Information Sciences.
January 28, 2009: SWE General Meeting at the Center for Student Services over pizza lunch
February 12: SWE members were invited to the Los Angeles Diversity Leaders Forum and a couple members attended.
February 26: Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
April 4: SWE set up a booth at the Prefrosh Weekend Club Fair
April 22: SWE General Meeting at the Center for Student Services over pizza lunch
May 8: SWE took a group a ~ 75 middle schoolers from John Liechty Middle School on a campus tour.
May 9: About 16 budding women scientists and engineers spoke to high school students at Sylmar High School about the various fields in science and engineering in detail (different tracks, current research, post-college paths etc for each field).
Saturday, September 23rd: SWE booth at the Caltech Club Fair.
October 15th, noon: General meeting for fall term. We discused the Freshmen Mentoring Program, IGED, and other SWE events for the term.
October 25-27: SWE National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Event website.
Wednesday, November 14th: Geek to Chic, a collaborative event with the Caltech Career Center.
Thursday, Dec 6th, 8pm in the Women's Center: End-of-term Ice Cream Social. Caltech ladies gathered in the women's center to relax and enjoy ice cream before finals.
Tuesday, January 22, 2008: First general meeting of second term! Was at noon on the Olive Walk, with free food. An agenda is here.
January 25-27: Regional SWE conference. Several members of SWE attended,learned from workshops and talked with companies at the career fair.
Thursday, February 21: Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
Friday, February 22: Shadow and Engineer for a Day at Raytheon El Segundo. A dozen Caltech girls spent the day with an engineer in their major, listened to prominent speakers in engineering, and participated in lab tours.
Friday, April 4: Women's Center prefrosh reception. 1p in the Center for Student Services.
Saturday, April 5: Prefrosh weekend Club Fair, 4:00-5:30p on the Olive Walk. SWE had a booth.
Friday, April 11: Frosh women's slumber party! 9p-3a in the Center for Student Services.
Wednesday, April 23: Third term general meeting. We discussed the officer positions and responsibilities for the upcoming year.
Friday, May 9th: Mentoring dinner at Buca di Beppo!
Monday, October 16th, Noon - 1pm: Caltech SWE fall meeting in Keck.
December 2006: SpaceX tour
