Theme Weeks & Programs
The SFCC creates and sponsors campus-wide programs throughout the academic year. Some of these offerings have become annual events, such as the Retirement Workshop co-sponsored with Human Resources. You may also know about WorkLife Fair (previously the Senior Care Fair) in which agencies come on campus to describe their services.
A more recent series of programs developed by the SFCC are Theme weeks during which speakers come over the lunch hour to talk about related topics. There is one theme week per academic quarter. These weeks include the following themes:
Fall
Child Education Week
This week is devoted to educating parents about the ins and outs of school success. One special aspect of this week is to help parents of prospective college-bound youth learn about choosing and financing different options.
Winter
Relationship Week
Relationship Week, which is scheduled appropriately near Valentine's Day, looks at the many phases of relationships: getting one off the ground, maintaining one, ending one, and dealing with the aftermath.
Spring
Senior Care Week
Experts in issues related to aging and eldercare offer helpful advice through presentations and workshops on topics such as retirement, "durable power of attorney" and caregiving.
On Going Activities
The Counselor is In
If you see a big red stop sign next to a table in the vicinity of Chandler some day announcing that, "the counselor is in", you will be able to gather information and speak with a counselor on the topic du jour. This informal program instructs a passerby about subjects such as finding summer camps for your child, dealing with anxiety and stress, helping your child succeed in school and others.
SFCC programs are advertised in the Campus Directory and on the SFCC Web Page. If you can think of programs you'd like to attend, please call us with your suggestion.
