Online Communities

Given that there is only one of me, and Lots More of you, I thought it might be helpful to note that there are several places online where people commonly discuss my books (they may be discussing me, too, but we hope not. I got one letter from a woman who had been studying my book jacket photos (with a magnifying glass, evidently), who demanded to know why there was a hole in my pants. This strikes me as a highly metaphysical question, which I am not equipped to answer, but which will doubtless entertain some chat-groups for quite a long time). [Ed. Note: I have added a couple of other places where you can engage in lively dialogue about Diana’s works.]

CompuServe

CompuServe is my regular electronic hang-out. I do go onto AOL once a week or so (though I haven’t been able to get on there for the last six weeks, owing to laptop suicide), but am in CompuServe nearly every day.

I’m a Section Leader for the Writers Forum, which is part of the Readers and Writers Ink Group (GO WRITER). My section--which I run with Susan Martin (who writes historical mystery fiction)--is called Research and Craft of Writing, and I’m "there" (as in, reading messages) pretty much every day, if I’m not out of town, lacking a computer, or besieged by vampire bats.

Set your software to download messages from the Writers Forum, Section 8. I do put excerpts, newsletters, and miscellaneous things in the library of Section 8, as well as in library 15 of the Literary Forum (GO LITFORUM), another in the Readers and Writers AInk Group.

Discussions in Writers and the Litforum are by no means limited to my books, but there are any number of friendly people in both places, who are interested in books and writing.

There are several other sites devoted to Diana’s work. Please feel free to let me know about other Gabaldon related sites, and I’ll add them to the list.

The Baronage Press - Technically this is not a site devoted to Diana’s work, but Mr. Hogarth at The Baronage Press has put up the color pages of the Fraser Arms that were included in the Companion. He was kind enough to allow us to link here. At some point, Diana and I will put up something a little more detailed, but that will have to wait for a little while. Barbara Schnell is a good friend of Diana’s and has done the German translations of some of her works, including Hellfire. You can visit Barbara’s site, and catch some of the excerpts translated into German.
