Local protein degradation

Although much attention has been paid to the role of protein synthesis in synaptic plasticity, relatively little is known about the potential role of protein degradation. The ubiquitin-conjugation system serves to identify, modify and deliver proteins to the proteasome for degradation. We are studying the significance of the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway in synaptic function and plasticity.
