"Navy gives USS Hornet to preservation group"

The Navy handed over the USS Hornet on Tuesday to a volunteer group that
saved the 899-foot warship from the scrap heap in 1995.
The Aircraft Carrier Hornet Foundation plans to turn the famed World War
II aircraft carrier into a museum, the only one of its kind on the West
Coast.
The Hornet is docked at Alameda, its home port during the days when its
pilots shot down 1,410 Japanese planes. The ship also sank 73 vessels and
took part in dispatching the giant battleship Yamato during the war.
