Welcome to the Caltech's
Club Latino! Caltech's Club Latino is an eclectic, non-political, campus organization dedicated to sharing the richness and diversity of the Hispanic cultures with the Caltech community. Semana Latina 2006: Help Wanted Pasadena (April 7, 2006) Semana Latina is Club Latino's biggest event. (You can see programs and pictures of past Semana Latinas on our Semana Latina page). Semana Latina is one week of daily events. This year it will be held from May 8 to May 13. It requires a lot of work to plan the event and, especially, to coordinate the logistics and set up each day's events. It is a very high reward activity, though: attendance is massive, attendants are cheerful, and organizers always get a lot of positive feedback. It is crucial that we get as many of you as possible involved in the organization of this event. Each person has to commit about 2 hours of time during the week of events, to set up a noon event for one of the days. In other words, although the collective work is huge, if we have enough helping hands, the individual work is minimal. So send us an email (Debrah or Angel), and tell us how you want to help or feel free just to ask us questions about the event. Gracias! - The Semana Latina Search Committee New 2005-2006 Officials! CIT - March 15, 2005 Our beloved and elected president, Dr. Carlos Romero (yup, he got his PhD) left us to pursue an ever so productive, but potentially more rewarding life outside our campus. With Semana Latina approaching, we have temporarily re-structured the club hierarchy (some call it coup d'état): Angel Ruiz Angulo is our new Vice-president, in charge of everything, including account management (we decided the title treasurer was outdated, and found the better name of vice-president for this, as well as most other functions). Debrah Meloso became the new President, in charge of everything the Vice-President does not do, including telling him [the "Vice"] what to do (cool, isnt it?). Santiago V. Lombeyda is still the webmaster, and the art exhibit organizer our link to a more aesthetic world. Anna Salazar (we will never let her go) is our Oracle and Archive. And yes, in this new modern approach to club management, we must mention the Salsa club and its officials as our support team, or outside consultants. We want YOU! We need volunteers to run the coffee club (send lame e-mails to the list whenever you feel like having half-priced coffee), and a newly created position of club archivist. The main mission of the archivist would be to transform the knowledge currently stored in Anna Salazars brain format into some digital format like excel or word.
Best of luck to our new leadership, and we look forward to an amazing year! And stay tuned for cool-fun things coming your way from Club Latino! |
Pasadena (April, 2005) ¡Hola! Welcome to all our new members, old members, and occasional visitors of our web-page. This is Club Latinos little corner, efficiently and always artfully maintained by Santiago Lombeyda. In this website, the cyber and only home of Club Latino, we announce events involving our club, latino culture, or the latino community at Caltech. This page also tries to keep up to date with Latino events going on in our neighborhood (there is so much!). Finally, you can check archive material, like pictures from past Semana Latina issues, art exhibits, and our world renowned poster arts. If you have ideas or suggestions for this website, please e-mail clatino(at)its.calech.edu. I hope you enjoy this web-page and our restructured club. ¡Hasta siempre! Debrah President April 2005 Caltech's Club Latino is Google Number 1 Search Result Pasadena (January, 2006) Caltech's Club Latino's web page has reconquered the number one spot as a search result on Google for "club latino". For the last trimester of 2005, the UK's web magazine "View London" review of "Upstairs at Ronnies" latin club had captured the number one spot, mostly for its countless links to random London night scene info pages. For the two years prior, our Club Latino had the top result, except for sporadic intermissions when a german Latin Club in Postdam was posting pictures and movies of parties they were hosting, which earned them the number one spot. Content such as our popular Semana Latina, and Semana Latina Art Exhibits (Espiritu and Dimensiones), as well as mutual hyper-linking to friends such as Caltech's Salsa Club (cleverly named salCITa), and Tango Club (Argentine Tango Club, not to be confused with the less popular Chechnean Tango Club ; ) ), have earned us the number one spot again. "There is no gurantee we will keep the top result for long", Club Latino's webmaster told us, "but we will do our best to keep the content fresh and clean" he assured us. UPDATE: as of mid 2006, we are still "numero uno"! ![]() *NOW SEEKING A REGENT OF CAFFEINE!
