Academic Background: I was born in 1978 in Putian, a small city in the central coastal area of the Fujian province of mainland China. In 1996, I went to Beijing to receive my college education. I studied chemistry in the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Peking University and received my Bachelor of Science degree in June 2000. As an undergraduate research assistant, I worked on the intercalation chemistry of tungsten bronze and the hydrothermal synthesis of metallo-borophosphates in the laboratory of Prof. Jianhua Lin. In the fall of 2000, I came to the United States and began my doctoral studies under the guidance of Prof. Karsten Meyer at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of California, San Diego. My research focused on the development of novel tripodal N-heterocyclic carbene ligands for small molecule activation. After receiving my Doctor of Philosophy degree in Inorganic Chemistry in December 2004, I moved to California Institute of Technology where I am now a postdoctoral scholar in the laboratories of chemistry professors Nathan S. Lewis and Jonas C. Peters . My current research is centered on the development of molecular hydrogen evolving catalysts for sun-light driven water splitting reactions. Personal Information: I am a easy-going down-to-earth guy. I spend most of my free time hanging out with friends, eating out, and watching movies. I also like to go to the beach, visit museums, and occasionally, go shopping (when my wallet is not empty).I am a sports fan, but only on watching. My Zodiac sign is Virgo, and I like to talk about astrology. I have a blog at http://spaces.msn.com/members/destendipity. It doesn¡¯t have too many entries yet, but I am working on it. |
