2006 Caltech C Beach Trip - Point Dume
(based on 2005 version)
The Caltech C is organizing a beach trip to Point Dume State Beach on
Saturday May 13,
2006. The beach is
beautiful, clean, and much less crowded than the most popular beaches.
There are also cliffs, coves, and there is a scenic trail to the top. Click here for the general
information page.
Sign-up deadline is NOON 12PM, FRIDAY, MAY 12TH.
The present page will tell you the plan, what to bring, and
how to
get there.
Plan
Here is a rough plan of the trip. We will meet at the beach around 11:00am
on Saturday. Early risers may go there earlier. Lunch will be provided from
11:30am to 1:30pm, and we will have the games and sports throughout our stay
there till about 4pm. Then we will start heading back. So far, the
entertainment we have includes volleyball, soccer, frisbee, board, and card
games. You are welcome to bring your own also. For more information, please
send an email to Chunhui Gu at chunhui@caltech.edu.
You are strongly encouraged to carpool. There is a $6 parking fee.
Suggested things to bring
We will provide lunch and drinks, but you may want to bring your own snacks. We
suggest that you bring the following items:
- Good mood :-)
- Towel to sit on (we will provide some tarps)
- Sunscreen and sunglasses
- Swimsuit
- Sun umbrella
- Sport equipment, for instance boogieboard (we will provide a lot of
other equipment)
- Rubber duck (if you want company when you are swimming)
- Spade, if you want to build sand castles
- Board and card games (we will also provide some)
- Cash for parking.
How to get there from Caltech
210 West, then 134 West, then 101 North towards Ventura. Drive for a long
time.
Exit N9 (Kanan Road / Kanan Dume
Road).
After some time, you will get to PCH, turn right.
Then very soon, turn left on Westward Beach Road (which also leads to Zuma
Beach). This
will lead you to the parking lot at the beach. At the end of the beach we
will be sitting.
If you want Yahoo/Mapquest directions, use the address "7103 Westward
Beach Road,
Malibu, CA". But note that this will give you the route via Santa Monica.
This route can be very slow, because of (beach) traffic. We recommend the
alternative route above. It takes about an hour.
