Astrophysics
Most of the research done by members of the IRA is performed at the Hale
200-inch Telescope at Palomar
Observatory near San Diego, California and the two 10-m Keck Telescopes
atop Mauna Kea in Hawaii. We work in the "near infrared" range of the
electromagnetic spectrum between wavelengths of 1 and 10 microns.

Some Research projects include:
- Infared spectroscopy of active galactic nuclei
- Imaging and spectroscopy of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies
- High-resolution speckle imaging of AGN
- Imaging and photometry of quasars
- Imaging and photometry of Galactic compact objects
- Development of instrumentation
Instrumentation available in our group includes:
- 256x256 NICMOS Camera with grism and broad and narrow filters
- 256x256 SBRC InSb Camera with grism, CVF and broad band filters
- Long Slit Spectrometer
- Integral
Field Spectrograph
Because no astronomy WWW page should be allowed to exist without some pretty
pictures, we also have (under construction) an image gallery with a few inlined and external
images.

Softball
Our softball team
is a traditionally, shall we say, relaxed, summer pastime of the
infrared/sub-millimeter groups. It's captain in recent years has been Alycia Weinberger.
This team is traditionally a participant in the D-League anti-playoffs, which
is saying something.
