Freshman Mentoring Program

One of SWE's great resources is the Freshman Mentoring Program, where we pair the new freshmen girls with upperclass female mentors who can advise them on everything from choosing the right major to adjusting to college life to finding food at three in the morning. We try to match the freshmen with upperclass SWE members in their prospective major. Usually you meet about once a term (more is encouraged) to have lunch or coffee and talk about majors, classes, or life in general.

Get a Mentor

If you're interested, email swe@its.caltech.edu with your name, predicted major (we understand if you're undecided!), and any preferences you might have. You don't even have to be considering engineering to apply; we have lots of girls involved from other majors.

Be a Mentor

If you are interested in mentoring a freshman girl this year, please email swe@its.caltech.edu with your name, year, and major. We already have dozens of girls signed up so we need your help!

2008 Freshman Mentoring Program

This year's program was a great success! We had 41 freshmen and 41 mentors participate.

We wrapped up the year with a dinner for all the freshmen and their mentors. The dinner was held at Buca di Beppo, and delicious food and fun was had by all.
